Mashed Potatoes

with 4 comments

It’s been a while since I last posted anything. My brain feels like a bowl of mashed potatoes drenched in gravy. My body is not too far behind. A walking sack of potatoes going through the motions. Some days I feel like I’m just slowly disappearing into the background. I think my new position as an assignment editor is partly to blame. Hours stuck in the office, staring at a computer, dealing with people in the office, organizing other people’s schedules, managing everyone else’s life for eight hours a day, but not my own. Not really making photographs as much. Not moving. Luckily it’s temporary. But it’s so draining and mindless. I just need to get through it.

There is a up-side to it all though. I don’t have to go out and make photographs of things I no longer have any real interest in. It’s been a nice break, but I think the honeymoon is over. I need some fresh air, I think I’m suffocating.

  1. drowning in mashed potatoes sucks. what an awful way to go. it’s an interesting metaphor though.

and maybe this new roll as assignments editor will help get you out of that familiar rut we all seem to work into our own minds. maybe it’ll inspire your photography in its own weird way — because now, when you’re out there shooting you’re shooting for one person alone.

or maybe it will just prompt you to swim to the top of the mashed potatoes or maybe… it’d be way more fun to eat your way out.

  3. Thanks for the encouragement m, I needed that. Eating my way out would definitely be way more fun!

Gin, don’t worry, I wasn’t referring to you!

  4. I relate to your pain. Glad to see you’re putting yourself out here — it really tends to take the stress off.
